Health & Safety Policy — Business Waste Removal Manor Park
Purpose: This Health and Safety policy sets out the commitments and procedures for safe delivery of business waste removal and related rubbish removal services across our designated service area. It explains the responsibilities of management and staff, the controls applied to waste handling, and the processes used to prevent injury, ill health and environmental harm during commercial rubbish removal operations.Policy Statement: We are committed to maintaining a safe workplace for all employees, contractors and the public affected by our business rubbish disposal activities. We will provide appropriate resources to implement this policy and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety standards. Safe operations for waste collection, transport and transfer are central to our service delivery.

Scope and Applicability
This policy applies to all staff engaged in commercial waste collection, on-site rubbish clearance, vehicle-based waste transport and depot handling. It covers routine segregated refuse removal, recycling collection, bulky waste collection, and any special collections that form part of our rubbish company service area. Subcontractors and temporary workers are required to follow the same standards and report to the site safety supervisor.Responsibilities
Management will ensure that risk assessments are completed, controls are implemented, and that adequate training and personal protective equipment (PPE) are provided. Managers must maintain documentation, monitor compliance and review procedures following incidents or changes to operations.Employees and operatives are responsible for following procedures, using PPE correctly and reporting unsafe conditions promptly. Everyone must take reasonable care for their own safety and that of others, cooperate with safety instructions, and participate in training. Critical behaviours include correct manual handling techniques and adherence to vehicle safety checks.
Key Controls and Risk Management
Risk assessments will be performed for all activities, including hazardous waste segregation, manual handling, vehicle loading and site access. Controls include:- Use of appropriate PPE (gloves, hi-vis, eye protection, steel-toe boots and respiratory protection where required)
- Safe systems of work and job briefings for complex or non-routine collections
- Segregation of hazardous materials and immediate isolation of suspected hazardous loads
Handling of hazardous or unknown materials requires immediate notification to management and isolation of the material pending specialist advice. Our personnel receive training on identifying common hazardous wastes and on securing scenes to prevent cross-contamination. We do not accept or process unknown chemical wastes without verification and appropriate controls.
Vehicle and site safety measures include mandatory pre-shift vehicle checks, use of reversing alarms and spotters where required, secure loading practices and clear signage at work sites. Drivers must follow safe route planning and adhere to load restraint procedures to prevent spills during transfer.
Manual handling controls are enforced through regular training, mechanical aids where available, team lifts for heavy items and the removal of unnecessary lifting by using trolleys or hoists. Ergonomic considerations are incorporated into daily routines to reduce musculoskeletal injuries among operatives performing frequent lifts.
Emergency procedures are established for spills, fires and medical incidents. All sites and vehicles carry basic spill kits and fire extinguishers appropriate to the waste types handled. First aid provision is available through trained staff, and emergency contact procedures are posted at depots and in vehicles.
Incident reporting and investigation are mandatory for all accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences. Reports are reviewed to identify root causes and to implement corrective actions that prevent recurrence. Records of incidents, training and equipment checks are retained to support continuous improvement.
Monitoring and performance evaluation are conducted through routine safety audits, toolbox talks and supervisory spot checks. Key performance indicators include incident frequency, training completion rates and audit compliance scores. Management reviews these metrics monthly to track progress and to allocate resources where gaps are identified.
Training and competence development are core to delivering safe rubbish removal services. Induction training covers company policies, basic hazard awareness and vehicle safety. Role-specific training addresses hazardous waste handling, waste segregation standards, and operation of any mechanical handling equipment. Refresher training is scheduled periodically to maintain competence.
Review and continuous improvement: This Health & Safety policy will be reviewed at least annually or following significant operational changes or incidents. The review will ensure alignment with best practice for commercial waste collection and the responsibilities set out herein. All staff are encouraged to contribute suggestions to improve safety, and management will act to implement viable improvements in a timely manner.
Declaration: The organisation commits to this policy and to ensuring that safety is integrated into all aspects of our business waste removal and rubbish collection activities. By maintaining robust controls, training and monitoring, we aim to protect people, property and the environment while delivering reliable waste removal services across the service area.
